By default, the POA authenticates users to GroupWise® through Novell® eDirectory. The POA obtains a user's GroupWise password from the user's User object in order to grant mailbox access. With LDAP authentication enabled, user password information can be retrieved from any network directory that supports LDAP.
The LDAP Configuration page lets you change some LDAP settings for the current POA session. Change the settings as needed, then click Submit to put them into effect.
LDAP authentication is enabled and configured in ConsoleOne® (Tools > GroupWise System Operations > LDAP Servers and Post Office object > GroupWise tab > Security page).
Displays the user name (if any) used by the POA to log in to the LDAP server.
Specify the number of seconds the POA should maintain an inactive connection to the LDAP server. The default is 30 seconds.
Displays whether or not GroupWise users are prevented from changing their LDAP passwords when using the Password dialog box in the GroupWise client (Windows or Cross-Platform). When this option is set to No, if users change their passwords using Tools > Options > Security > Password in the GroupWise client, their LDAP passwords are changed to match the new passwords provided in the GroupWise client.
Non-Pooling: The /ldapipaddr startup switch has been used in the POA startup file to list IP addresses for multiple LDAP servers. If the primary LDAP server does not respond, LDAP tries the next LDAP server in the list, and so on until it is able to access the LDAP directory.
Load Balance Pool: Multiple LDAP servers have been selected for the post office in ConsoleOne. The POA cycles to a different LDAP server each time it needs to access the LDAP directory, which facilitates load balancing and fault tolerance.
If you have multiple LDAP servers configured into a pool for this post office, specify the number of minutes the POA should wait before trying to contact an LDAP server in the pool that failed to respond to the previous contact. The default is 5 minutes.
